System Image Backup is not a new feature in Windows 10 — it has been available in previous versions of Windows. However, if you are on Windows 10 and need to quickly and easily backup your system. You can create a system image, which contains a copy of Windows and copies of your programs, system settings, and files. The system image is then stored in a separate location from the original programs, settings, and files.   1. If you are using windows 8.1 Touchscreen PC or Laptop then  – just Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Search or
  2. If you’re using a mouse not touchscreen device, point to the upper-right corner or Lower-right corner of your PC screen, and move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search or
  3. If you are using windows 10  PC or Laptop just press windows key + Q or Windows key + S or just search in the Cortana search box and type File History.
  4. While in File History, click the System Image Backup link in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  5. Now Connect an external USB hard drive or Hard drive with enough free space, minimum 32 GB recommended.
  6. In the backup wizard, you’ll be prompted to choose from one of the three options to save the backup. For this example, we are going select the hard drive you just connected.
  7. However, keep in mind that you can backup to DVD blanks and a network share, but these options will slow down the backup process.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Confirm and begin the process by clicking Start backup.

Restore your computer from a system image backup

If your computer is still working and you can access Control Panel, or if you want to restore your system image backup onto a different computer, follow these steps:

  1. To restore your computer from backup, connect the drive with the system image backup and reboot your computer with the Windows installation media.
  2. During the Windows Setup, click Next,
  3. then click the Repair your computer link in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  4. Click on Troubleshoot, click Advanced options, and
  5. select System Image Recovery.
  6. Now select the target operating system you want to recover, click Next and Finish.

  7. Open Recovery by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel.

  8. In the search box, type recovery, and then click Recovery.

  9. Click Advanced recovery methods.

  10. Click Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer,

  11. and then follow the steps.

Microsoft introduced two new reset features in Windows 8 — and they are still available in Windows 10. Use these features in combination with File History to keep an up to date copy of all of your documents offered a more robust backup solution:

  1. A system image is an exact copy of a drive. By default, a system image includes the drives required for Windows to run. It also includes Windows and your system settings, programs, and files.   2. File History regularly backs up versions of your files in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC. Over time, you’ll have a complete history of your files. If the originals are lost, damaged, or deleted, you can restore them. You can also browse and restore different versions of your files. For example, if you want to restore an older version of a file (even if it wasn’t deleted or lost), you can browse through a timeline, select the version you want, and restore it. Backup data with file history in Windows.

File History only backs up – Windows 10 Backup Features copies of files that are in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and theOneDrive files available offline on your PC. If you have files or folders elsewhere that you want backed up, you can add them to one of these folders.

The image backup feature in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 includes a bit-by-bit copy of the entire system. This backup contains the full installation of the operating system, settings, desktop programs, Windows apps, and all your personal files.
