iPhone X, iPhone 8, Face ID Review

The iPhone X (10) is the best phone that Apple has introduced to date – and one that has the most modern design of all new iPhone (including the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus ). For months, rumors pointed to Apple would present the iPhone 8 as the new flagship phone of 2017 and that, in total, would present three phones.

he new iPhone X has finally shown itself to the public. We find a terminal of a design very similar to the one of its brothers iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 , although the differences are noticed just seeing its new screen. Under its glass cover uses a 5.8-inch display that covers the entire surface. That is, the front is occupied by the new OLED screen called Super Retina Display . It is tactile throughout and only one hole is left uncovered, where the handset and the front camera of the terminal are housed.iphone x review specs release date

It is in this terminal where the rumors confirm that the haptic button of the iPhone 7 disappears . Instead, to unlock the phone will feature the new Face IDtechnology . It uses a complete RA scanner called TrueDeph , consisting of several sensors that recognize your face from all angles even if it changes its appearance or light. That is, it does not matter if you wear glasses, beard or makeup, the phone recognizes the patterns of your camera with precision. Of course, the photos do not work to ‘cheat’ and you should either look at the screen or it will not work. In this case you can always slide your finger as always, but you will face a custom PIN code.

So long we have been hearing about the OLED screen of the future iPhonethat gives the impression that it debuted generations ago, but it is not. The manufacturer has waited until its X phone to start saying goodbye to the LCD and welcome the OLED technology . A technology that has already taken cruising speed and now, after adoption by Apple, should definitely take over the mobile market.

The screen of this iPhone X has been manufactured by Samsung , its eternal competition, a “infinite” panel of 5.8 inches with a notch at the top for the front camera and the various sensors. The ideal would have been, perhaps, the Xiaomi design taking the sensors to the bottom, but Apple engineers command and the iPhone X is as it is. Only now it’s OLED.

The rumors were successful in most aspects, including the launch of three new iPhone this year, although the name did not end up being iPhone 8 as was speculated for a long time, but iPhone X in honor of the tenth anniversary of this device.iphone x review specs release date

If you place a screen practically edge to edge as in the case of this iPhone X, it is logical that you have little space for other components. Like the Home button , for example. The Home button flies from the front and as it also goes Touch ID. But this aesthetic change required some movement on the part of Apple and this has happened. And gift, tap to wake up , a touch on the screen to wake her up.

In the new iPhone X gestures appear on the screen so we can operate as if the Home button had never disappeared . Now we have a kind of touchpad on the front, on the screen itself, so that we can continue giving instructions to the phone without having to go to another part of the terminal. It will have to be proved because the gestures have been in the market for years with a rather poor result. We’ll see how they work on this iPhone.

The basic specifications of the iPhone X are not very different from what you find in the iPhone 8, but its design includes a screen almost without borders or bevels, similar to the one we see in the Essential Phone and, in a way, to what we have seen on cell phones like LG G6 , Samsung Galaxy S8 , LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8 .

However, the iPhone X has a screen that covers almost the entire front of the phone, allowing it to be the iPhone with the largest screen, but not with a larger body. The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus are still larger despite having a 5.5-inch screen.

Navigating the iPhone X is a bit different than before. Now you need to slide up to return to the Home screen, while sliding down from the right corner to activate the Control Center.

The iPhone X has no Touch ID or fingerprint reader, but integrates Face ID or facial recognition.iphone x review specs release date

With the advent of the iPhone X, Apple unveils the Super Retina Display, a 5.8-inch OLED display , the first of its kind to hit the iPhone. The screen occupies virtually the entire front of the device and offers us a spectacular brightness and contrast of 1,000,000: 1.

At the top of the device we find a notch where the cameras are necessary to be able to unlock the device through our face. The problem with this notch is that when it comes to enjoying games or videos, the result leaves a bit to be desired when cutting a part of the screen.

Until now moving the device we could turn on the screen, thanks to the option available in the latest iPhone models. This model allows us to turn it on simply by touching it so that it wakes up and shows us if it has any notification.

Again we have been able to check how the keynote in which Apple has introduced the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, Apple TV 4k and Apple Watch Series 3 did not surprise anyone, since we knew all the data related to these devices , including the images, especially the expected iPhone X, the terminal with which Apple celebrates the tenth anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone.

However, the iPhone X has been the most time and attention has captured, due to the screen, occupying virtually the entire front of the device and also will be responsible for completely emptying the pocket where we plan to save it. Here we show all specifications, pricing and availability of the iPhone X .

Apple assures that Face ID is very secure, since it can not be mocked with a photo or a mask.

During the event it did not always work properly. Also, apparently it takes between one and two seconds to unlock the cell phone, so it does not seem to be as instantaneous as Touch ID or as the iris reader works on the Galaxy Note 8 with a stated condition.

First iPhone with OLED (Super Retina Display)iphone x review specs release date

OLED technology finally arrives on an iPhone and arrives almost borderless.

The top edge is the most visible as it encompasses the light sensor, proximity sensor, horn, microphone, front camera, infrared camera, an illuminator and a spot projector.

This combination of sensors allows facial recognition of the iPhone X, a function used to unlock the cell phone, to authenticate mobile payments with Apple Pay or to enter apps like Mint.

In addition, the iPhone X supports HDR content (Dolby Vision and HDR10), catching up with mobile phones such as the LG V30 and Galaxy Note 8.

Face Recognition (TrueDepth Camera)

At the top is an infrared camera, the front camera, an illuminator and the front camera.

These sensors work in teams to detect the depth and different features of your face to offer security and precision when unlocking the cell phone. One of the fears that users had was that when the physical start button disappeared, so did the Touch ID . Finally this news has been confirmed and Face ID will take care of its function. From now on our face will be the only way to unlock our device, identify us and pay safely. This technology analyzes more than 30,000 points of our face to create a detailed map of our face.

Just like we wear glasses, a hat, a scarf, a turtleneck, we wear a wig, if we cut our hair , Face ID will know at all times that we are still the same person. When using depth detectors, the operation of the Face ID will not respond if we show a photograph of our face.

Being the new method to protect our information, it is also the method used to authenticate that we are the legitimate owners of the device when making payments with Apple Pay.

The new iPhone X debuts new processor A11 Bionic , a processor more powerful than the brothers iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are managed by the A11. This 6-color processor is capable of performing up to 600,000 million operations per second thanks to its neural motor.

Of the six cores, four of them offer efficiency 70% higher than the A10 Fusion processor , and the other two, are 25% faster. Thanks to the neuronal engine that integrates the iPhone X, Face ID technology is able to adapt to our appearance as time passes, as I mentioned in the section of the camera.

Cameras: Double optical stabilization, portrait photos and Portrait Lightning (beta)

As you can imagine, Face ID requires the front camera to work. It has a 7 MPX sensor and F / 2.2 aperture capable of 1080p recording. In addition, it includes a function called Animoji that allows you to use some emojis to send voice notes via iMessage. It stands out because each emoticon will put your voice and will execute the same movements and facial gestures that when you recorded them.

The rear sensor of the iPhone X is dual 12 MPX with wide angle to f1.8 and telephoto with f2.4 aperture. It has a flash of four True Tone Flash LEDs, portrait mode that shares with the front camera (now with more functions and filters). When capturing a video you will have a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 fps , although you can get a slow motion effect with resolution 1080 to 240 fps . It has an optical stabilizer, so you will not notice the tremors in your hand unless you shake it. Unlike previous models

This is the first time that the iPhone has optical image stabilization on its two rear cameras, allowing better photos to be captured in different situations.

The back of the iPhone X offers us two 12-megapixel cameras, both with optical stabilizer and which allow us, like last year’s Plus model, to make fantastic captures with portrait mode. Both cameras are new and integrate a new color filter that will improve, even more if the method fits, with which we make our captures.

The front camera of the iPhone X, has been renamed TrueDepth, thanks to the sensors able to detect the depth and also allow us to use the portrait mode of 7 and 8 Plus. At the time of realizing our selfies, we can change the type of lighting through effects that the camera offers us to improve the final result in a spectacular way.

These new cameras significantly improve the noise level of the photographs, especially when there is not much light. The combination of the wide angle and telephoto of the iPhone X offers us an optical zoom and a digital one up to x10 in photos and x6 in videos.

In addition, the front camera also allows you to take photos with blurry background and both the rear and front cameras bring a new feature called Portrait Lighting that allows different light effects to be applied to photos.

The iPhone X is the top of the company and given its capabilities and specifications above is not a cheap smartphone. It will come with iOS 11 installed and, as usual, there will be several versions according to its internal space of 64 or 256 GB and will cost 1,159 and 1,329 euros respectively. Available in gray and silver , the iPhone X will be available for your reservation on October 27 this year and the first units will arrive on November 3 .

Animoji: ’emojis’ animated

Taking advantage of the different facial recognition sensors that integrate the iPhone X, the user can create emojis with their own expressions or represent the way you move your mouth, eyes and head.

These emojis can be shared through iMessage.

Although the rumors pointed out that Apple could offer this new model in three different colors, the company for the moment will only put on sale two: Space gray and silver , leaving aside the gold and the pink. It is likely that within a few months, the color palette will be expanded with a new model in copper color, third color in which the iPhone X should be available, but apparently due to production problems currently unavailable.

iOS 11 optimized for iPhone with screen only

iOS 11 does not show big changes, but the way different aspects are controlled was optimized for the iPhone X.

For example, you now have to swipe from bottom to top to go to Home or make the same move while holding down the screen to open the apps exchanger.

In addition, by sliding from top to bottom on the right edge you can access the control center.

Perspective

The iPhone X is the iPhone we’ve been waiting for years, including a beautiful OLED display that supports HDR content that almost has no bezels. In addition, it has some improvements on the iPhone 8 Plus that position it as the best iPhone to date.

However, it is very expensive (US $ 999), will not be available until November, its new design makes it more fragile (glass on the back and front that is almost screen only) and, like iPhone 8 and 7, has a headphone jack.

Face ID:

The iPhone 10th Anniversary can be unlocked using your factions. Is that how it works.

The new iPhone X , which was introduced today in Cupertino, incorporates a new technology called Face ID that will allow you to unlock the device using the factions of your face.

Face ID replaces the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which has now disappeared to leave more room to the screen. The biometric security of this platform works using the front camera of the iPhone to register your facial structure as your password. That means if someone other than you – or your identical twin – tries to unlock your iPhone, they will not. Add convenience to unlock the device without lifting a finger.

And as it sounds to me, I let you unlock the phone. The new Face ID makes its appearance to lend a hand to users who now do not have TouchID on the front to unlock the device. A system as old as the unlocking facial but that makes its appearance in the new phone of Apple with an improvement: no longer is bridged as easily as in the past .

It is often said that Apple tends to be late but does so with the most polished functionalities, and has rarely been as smoothly as with Face ID. A 3D recognition system knows that our face is ours, not a photo or an image on a screen. We are in front of the phone and automatically grant us access to it. As simple as it sounds , and so efficient.

Apple has used artificial intelligence algorithms, a neural motor, to detect our face with Face ID

“This is the phone we had been dreaming about for a long time,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, during Tuesday’s event.

For the new unlock system, Apple has added a new “neural engine” to the iPhone X, which can operate 600 billion operations per second. That will help you process all the different images when you are looking at your face. You can recognize your face through different hairstyles, glasses, facial hair, lighting and other changing circumstances.

Apple said the facial recognition program can adapt to your face as it changes over time. The face recognition uses an infrared camera and a light sensor, along with a proximity sensor to scan your face, even in the dark.

The company said Face ID is roughly 20 times more secure than Touch ID.

This is news in progress. We will update this article when we have more information.

And to close, what better way to know what we will buy when we go to an Apple Store for an iPhone X in the color we want, we leave you with the complete technical specifications . Everything you complete Apple allows you to be in your presentation, of course. We already know that there will be some things that will be known days later.

Wireless Charging

At last Apple has decided to take a jump in batteries that has been on the market for several years, although it is still not flashy and many manufacturers do not even show that their phones support. The wireless charge has come to Apple and does so coinciding with the launch of its terminal X, the tenth anniversary of the iPhone brand. At last we can charge the iPhone without having to connect it to the cable .

The evolution of the system, however, is nothing short of nonexistent. We still have to support the device in the charging pad so that it can take advantage of the induction current so perhaps we would have to call it charge per contact instead of wireless, the eternal debate. But to each his own. It has been delayed but the wireless charge is already in the Apple catalog. Des-pa-cito but with good lyrics.

iPhone 8 Plus

The iPhone 8 Plus is no longer the most powerful and advanced Apple phone, but it is still the largest.

Apple introduced for the first time three new iPhone at a time as the new generation of company’s flagship phones. While the new iPhone X brings the biggest news and the one that will leave more than one with open mouth with its attractive design, the iPhone 8 Plus is Apple’s largest phone.

The iPhone 8 Plus shares the same design of the  iPhone 8  that makes it look like a new Apple phone, but does not have the same beautiful display of the iPhone X or an almost borderless screen like the  Samsung Galaxy S8  LG G6 ,  LG V30  and  Galaxy Note 8 .

Inside the main news you find that the iPhone 8 Plus now has a glass back that allows the cell phone to charge wirelessly and its rear cameras were optimized to take advantage of ARKit to offer games and augmented reality experience.

In addition, Apple said the iPhone 8 Plus is the best cell phone to record video in the world, as it offers the ability to record slow-motion video recording at 1,080p to 240fps.

This year the double camera also landed on this iPhone X, in the edition of the tenth anniversary, and does so without being a Plus model, although it is also true that this is a very specific edition in a very specific year. Be that as it may, the iPhone X is not Plus but loads with two eyes on the back and with an improved Portrait mode whose results promise to give enough joy. With nuances, the difference between cameras and smartphones is getting shorter. As an add-on, we now have dual optical stabilization and Quad LED flash.

What’s New in the iPhone 8 Plus

  • Glass in the back
  • Compatible with wireless charging
  • You can play HDR content (Dolby Vision and HDR10)
  • The display has True Tone for more accurate color rendering.
  • New lenses for the rear cameras, but maintains the same resolution and aperture.
  • It has a new processor and spec upgrade.
  • Rear cameras optimized for the ARKit augmented reality.

How Apple Face ID Works

It’s like a little Microsoft Kinect tucked into your phone, plus take some learning machines.

You should have already heard that the new  iPhone X has no start button, no fingerprint sensor.

How will you unlock your phone or pay for something? Apple expects you to use its new Face IDtechnology – where you simply have to look at your phone to unlock it. On Tuesday Apple talked extensively about the new TrueDepth sensor, which carries a lot of hardware in a fairly small space – the typical front camera, microphone, speaker, ambient light and proximity sensor now also feature the company’s new infrared camera , Spot Projector and Flow Illuminator.

Although it sounds incredibly complicated, the process seems quite simple: the phone illuminates your face, shooting 30,000 transparent infrared dots to your face and creating a model, takes photos from those points with the infrared camera and decides if those photographs are they really seem to you or not.

Apple says that the chances of cheating Face ID are literally one in a million – compared to one in 50,000 that a random person could use their fingerprint to unlock a previous model of iPhone that did not belong to him.

If the technology sounds to you, you may have used something similar before: Microsoft’s Kinectfor Xbox 360 and Xbox One allowed you to control games by looking at an infrared dots model projected in your dining room.

Also these cameras with depth can be seen in 3D, so you can not fool a photograph.

Apple seems to be innovating a bit with Face ID – both in terms of putting a lot of technology into something reasonably thin, like getting the banks to join. Apple says Face ID is safe enough for you to pay in physical stores, something that made us believe  that it would take years to come true.

Apps that used the Touch ID fingerprint sensor should also be able to use Face ID.

To make Face ID secure, private and fast enough to use, Apple says it never stores the scanners on your face in the cloud, but on an encrypted part of your phone.

In addition, the technology is designed to recognize you only when you have both eyes open and look directly at the phone.

Apple says he uses machine learning  or machine learning so that Face ID can grow with you and is smart enough to recognize your face with different hairstyles, whether you add a scarf or a hat or if you leave a beard . (Of course, we have not had time to prove it yet).

So this is not necessarily a new idea, but maybe Apple has all the pieces of the puzzle to get the payments just with the look are finally ubiquitous.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X, made for augmented reality

Although there are previous models that work with AR, Apple said that its new cell phones are improved by integrating dedicated technology.

“The first iPhone created for augmented reality,” is how Phil Schiller, vice president of marketing at Apple described the iPhone 8 – and also referring to the iPhone X – about their new cameras made for this nascent technology that reaches the phones Apple with iOS 11.

This is possible thanks to new technology in the rear cameras of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X: the cameras are calibrated for augmented reality, observe content at 60fps (frames per second) and have functions with low illumination, have a new accelerometer and gyroscope and motion tracking is more accurate.

Schiller said that the cameras on the iPhone are calibrated from the factories, which improves the operation of these with the augmented reality, a function that will be very important with the arrival of iOS 11 on September 19 worldwide. iOS 11 includes ARKit, the software needed for cameras to work with augmented reality.

The executive also said that the new Bionic A11 processor helps the reproduction of this content thanks to it is made for static tracking and moving, and offers the option of displaying realistic images.

Schiller showed some features that developers are doing for iOS 11 and the iPhone X and iPhone 8 camera, such as holding the camera in front of a sports game and viewing the information of the players on the field; or be able to play with friends on the same physical stage and see the characters of friends from the screen.

In addition to these new phones, ARKit also works on other devices with processors as old as the A9 and A10. That’s why the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, iPhone SE, iPad Pro 10.5 and 12.9 inches, as well as the iPad of 2017 released this year are also compatible.

iPhone X, iPhone 8, Apple TV 4K

iPhone X

Finally came the highly rumored iPhone 10th anniversary, which is called iPhone X (ten, in Roman numerals). The device has a Bionic 64-bit and six-core Aion Bionic chip that serves for better image processing and to enhance virtual reality functions.

Its screen (OLED, called Super Retina by Apple) has almost no bevels (neither up or down) and comes in two colors: space gray and silver (white). The screen measures 5.8 inches with a resolution of 2,436 x 1,125 pixels or 458ppp. Works with HDR.

Apple has removed the Home button and now the phone is unlocked with the Face ID function, which also make payments on Apple Pay. You no longer have the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Finally, Apple promoted many animated emojis called animojis , which are somewhat ridiculous. The phone has two 12-megapixel rear cameras, both with optical image stabilization and a new portrait mode called Portrait to adjust the light before and after the shot. Finally, it charges wirelessly with Qi technology, among other things. It arrives on November 3 in 64GB and 256GB versions from US $ 999. Pre-sales start at the end of October.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

These are the updates to the series 7 and although we expected the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, their official names are iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

These bring a new color called gold, glass back and steel and aluminum construction. They have stereo speakers and True Tone Retina flash with 3D Touch. Also, they have the Bionic A11 chip as the iPhone X. The Plus has double rear camera and the 8 only one. Both have Qi wireless charge, among other things.

The pre-sale begins on September 15 and is distributed to stores on September 22. They cost from US $ 699 and US $ 799 respectively.

Apple TV 4K

Apple’s streaming video box is updated to work with 4K content, as well as HDR (under both standards: Dolby Vision and HDR10). It now has the same iPad Pro chip – an A10X Fusion – and works with 4K content from iTunes, Netflix, Amazon and others. Soon, also, you will be able to see sports live.

It costs US $ 179 and arrives on September 22.

Apple Watch Series 3

According to Tim Cook in the presentation, Apple Watch is already the best selling smart watch in the world. At the event, Apple boss introduced the new Apple Watch Series 3. Among its novelties is LTE connection to no longer rely on the phone, which serves to listen to music directly from Apple Music, for example. Also, it upgraded its dual-core processor and includes integrated electronic SIM, plus it uses its display as an antenna and improves its heart rate monitoring functions. It is water resistant and costs US $ 399 with LTE and US $ 329 without cellular connection. Its new operating system, watchOS 4, arrives on September 19.

Apple Watch Series 3: All the news you need to know

The new smart watch from Apple now has LTE connection, a new red digital crown and more news.

Apple has updated its smart watch to give you more freedom.

The new Apple Watch Series 3, which was announced today during the first Apple event at Apple Park, is modernized and adds LTE, a feature that already owned one of its biggest competitors: the Samsung S3 Gear.

Apple is the second largest seller of wearables , according to IDC data as of August 31, 2017, only surpassed by Xiaomi and ahead of Fitbit, Garmin and Fossil.  As you can see from this data, Samsung is not even close, despite having the S2 Gear, the Gear S3 and the new Gear Sport and the Gear Fit 2 Pro bracelet.  Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, also said that Apple has increased its sales by more than 50 percent in the last year, and is already the first best-selling in the world ahead of Rolex or Fossil.

This new Apple Watch Series 3 does not innovate in design, so the bracelets of your smart watch from previous years will still serve you, however its renewed appeal lies in the LTE connectivity, marked by the red color digital crown. To this we add that the glass has been reduced and is now 0.25mm thick, like two sheets of paper, explained the company.

The Apple Watch Series 3 also unveils a new processor called W2, specially designed for Bluetooth and LTE connectivity, and also integrates in its most expensive version an eSIM, so you can go running with it without carrying your mobile phone, although this alone will reach nine countries, including the United States and Canada, but not Spain or Mexico. Apple said the new watch is 70 percent faster than its predecessors, allowing Siri to respond more fluently to your questions.

Specifications Apple Watch Series 3
